Obituary of Donal Duff

DUFF, Donal P., age 88, of Waldwick passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, January 17, 2014. Beloved husband of the late Jane Duff (nee Murphy). Loving father of Patrick Duff and his wife Mary, Mary Koury and her husband Joe, Donal Duff and his wife Barbara, Maureen Longway and her husband Chad, and Eileen Blalock and her husband Jamie. Loving grandfather of Megan, Ryan, Mary Kathryn, Patrick, Caitlin, Joseph Patrick, John, Christen, Brendan, Tyler, Riley, Nate, Nicholas, Allison, and Brynn, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Born and raised in the Bronx, Donal lived with his wife of 60 years in Waldwick since 1961. He worked for the New York State Court System for 38 years having risen to the title of Chief Clerk of the New York State Supreme Court. Before that, he was a ten-year veteran of the New York City Police Department. He is a graduate of New York Law School, Union College and De La Salle Institute. He served proudly in the United States Navy during World War II aboard the USS Graylag. He is a lifetime member of the Friendly Sons of Saint Patrick and a devoted parishioner of St. Luke's Church of Ho Ho Kus. He gave completely of himself to the care and wellbeing of his family working two jobs for nearly twenty years. His charitable spirit knew no bounds. He was an avid reader, a great sports fan, and the best storyteller ever. The Duff family will receive family and friends on Sunday, 3:00 until 7:00 PM at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home (www.vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ. Funeral mass will be Monday 10:00 AM at St. Luke's R.C. Church, 340 N. Franklin Tpk., Ho Ho Kus, NJ followed by interment in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Scholarship Fund for Inner City Children (http://www.sficnj.org/).
