Obituary of Joseph Bosotina

Bosotina, Joseph J., age 93 of Allendale, formerly of Little Ferry, died Thursday, September 19, 2013, at the Oakland Care Center. Joseph was born in New York, NY, and lived in Little Ferry, NJ, for 53 years before moving to Allendale, NJ. He was a WWII Navy Veteran. Joseph dedicated his life as a volunteer fireman in New York City and Little Ferry. He joined the Little Ferry Volunteer Fire Dept. in 1967, and was an active member of the Hook & Ladder Co. #1 for over 40 years. He served as Fire Chief of the Little Ferry Volunteer Fire Dept. in 1987, and Captain of the Hook & Ladder Company #1 in 1980. Joseph was a life member of the NJ State Fireman's Assn., a member of the NJ/NY Volunteer Fireman's Assn., and the NJ State Fire Chief's Assn. He was a former member of St. Margaret of Cortona RC Church, Little Ferry. Joseph was the Superintendent of the Department of Public Works in Little Ferry for many years before his retirement. Joseph was a member of the VFW Post 809, Little Ferry and the American Legion Post 310, Little Ferry, having served as Commander. Joseph is survived by his wife, Anna (nee Cappiello) of Allendale, NJ, his daughter, Catherine DiNapoli and son-in-law, Paul, of Marshalls Creek, PA, his son, Joseph C. Bosotina, and daughter-in-law, Joan, of Newton, NJ, his daughter, Theresa Brotherton and son-in-law, Wayne, of Mahwah, NJ, and his daughter, Patricia Gatto and son-in-law, Richard, of Allendale, NJ. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, and 21 great grandchildren. Joseph is predeceased by a daughter, Johann Stonehouse, two grandchildren, Paul R. DiNapoli, III, and Rene' Bosotina. Visiting hours will be held on Sun., Sept. 22 from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 pm at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, www.vpfh.com, 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ. A Funeral Mass will be held on Mon, Sept 23, at 11:00am at St. Margararet of Cortona RC Church, 31 Chamberlain Ave., Little Ferry, NJ. Private cremation will be held. Memorial contributions may be made in Joseph's memory to Wings of Refuge, Inc., 565 Campgaw Road, Mahwah, NJ 07430. Wings of Refuge is a non-profit organization dedicated to the welfare of children in Haiti. Arrangements are by Vander Plaat Funeral Home (www.vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff, NJ.
