Obituary of Stephen Konde

KONDE, Stephen, age 63, of Waldwick, NJ passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, December 22nd surrounded by his loving family. Steve, a lifelong Bergen County resident, was a graduate of Hackensack High School, Springfield College (BS) and Montclair University (MA). He was employed by the Paramus Board of Education for 34 years as a physical education teacher before retiring in 2004. He was also the Varsity Baseball coach at Waldwick High School for 20 years. During his coaching career, he was twice named Bergen County Coach of the year, was the recipient of the Bergen County Coaches Service to Baseball award and was inducted into the New Jersey Coaches Hall of Fame. Steve was a past president of both the Bergen County Coaches Association and the Bergen County Soccer Officials Association. He was an active soccer official for over 35 years. He is survived by his wife of forty years, Rosemary (nee Cubby) and by his daughters, Katie Eitner and her husband, Matt, of Mahwah and Kristen Nelson and her husband, Andy, of Ramsey. He was the beloved "Poppy" to Matthew, Luke and Brynn Eitner and Anabelle Nelson. He is also survived by his mother, Eunice Konde of Ramsey. The family will receive their relatives and friends at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ on Tuesday, December 27th from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
