Obituary of Rudy Templin
Rudolph Templin, 77, of Oakland for the past 50 years, passed away on Friday, July 19, 2019.
Rudy served in the Army National Guard for 6 years, graduated from Rutgers University and earned his Master’s Degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Rudy worked as a certified public accountant for Balfour MacLaine Corp. in New York City until he retired.
Rudy was a dedicated missionary to a large group of people left out of our modern day society--- Christian Singles. Over 20 years ago, he started an interdenominational social group called Christian Singles of North Jersey (CSNJ). Today, CSNJ has nearly 400 members. Each monthly meeting drew 30 to 70 people to “The Barn”, a building provided for fellowship and prayer at Rudy’s church, Faith Community Church of Wyckoff, for social programs and concerts, pot-luck dinners and Christ-centered companionship.
Rudy loved volunteering his time helping people in need. He volunteered at the Salvation Army, soup kitchens and homeless shelters.
Hiking and volleyball were Rudy’s passions. He volunteered at the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference to build, maintain and protect numerous miles of hiking trails in the tri-state area. He was also a volunteer and supporting member of the Appalachian Trail Conservancy. For many years he was passionate about playing and hosting recreational volleyball. He held a weekly pickup volleyball event in Hawthorne for over 20 years.
Rudy was a true gentleman, a spiritual inspiration and a dedicated friend to all who knew him. He will be sorely missed, but fortunately, his work will be carried on by those who have been inspired by his ministry.
Rudy is survived by his sons Randy and Ken and his 2 grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, July 24 at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, www.vpfh.com, 257 Godwin Ave. Wyckoff, NJ.
A Memorial Service will be celebrated 11:00 am on Thursday, July 25 at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home. Interment will be private at the Laurel Grove Memorial Park Cemetery.
