It is somewhat ironic that my Father-in-Law went home to be with the Lord right around the Thanksgiving Holiday, because it makes me reflect on how thankful I am for his life and our relationship. From the moment Janis and I got married, I decided to always call him "Dad." I am grateful that he allowed me to use that term with him, because he loved me as a son and surely treated me that way. In the 40+ years that I knew him, we never had a cross word. He was a great conversationalist, and had some amazing stories about his life growing up and his great service to our nation. Anyone who knew him at all immediately realized he was a very unique person. He rarely took a rest, as evidenced by his work ethic on his various jobs and taking care of his home and his family. His great passion was fishing, and I remember having the privilege of fishing with him on a number of occasions. I learned a lot about fishing from him, and will surely treasure those memories. In a world like we live in today, the loss of a person like my Father-in-Law causes us to grieve a lot, because we need a lot more people with the kind of character he displayed every day of his 96 years of life. Around this Thanksgiving time, we can be thankful for people like "Dad," because he showed us how a real man lives his life in a way that our family can be proud. We grieve his loss; however, we will cherish his memory forever. Thanks for everything Dad, and enjoy your time in the Eternal Kingdom!
