Obituary of Marian E. Vandervelt

VANDERVELT, Marian E. (nee Barrowclough) age 95 of Wyckoff, while surrounded by her family, went home to be with our Lord on Tuesday, September 27, 2016. Born and raised in Paterson, Marian married her husband Herb and moved to Wyckoff where they raised their four children. She graduated from the Sherwood Secretarial School in Paterson, and was a member of the Cornerstone Christian Church in Wyckoff. Marian was a mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother, who loved her family deeply and was always happiest when she was spending time with them. She was loved by all and will be deeply missed. Surviving are her devoted children, Marsha Shotmeyer, Donna and her husband Robert Anson and Keith Vandervelt and his wife Louise. She also leaves eleven grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, one great great grandson and several nieces and nephews. Over the last decade she has cared for all of her grandchildren and her great grandchildren, and travelled to London, Alaska, Disney World, Hawaii, Lake George , Maine, Florida all with her beloved family. In addition to her family, Marian loved going to church on Sundays, the color pink, spaghetti and meatballs, and playing cards. Marian was pre-deceased by her husband Herman Vandervelt in 1978, her daughter and son-in-law Georgia and Bruce Peters in 1996 and her son-in-law Henry Shotmeyer, Jr. in 2004. Marian’s family has so many wonderful and funny memories of her to share and remember. The Vandervelt family will receive friends at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home (www.vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff on Friday, September 30, 2016, 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held Saturday, 9:30 AM at the funeral home, followed by interment in the Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Paterson.
