Joe was a larger than life presence when he visited the parish office at Saint Elizabeth Church where I worked for a long time. He generously donated his time and his treasure over the years. He usually ended a visit or a phone call with his signature greeting of "Avocados." (To this day I'm not sure where that came from.) Joe will be missed, but he is with his dear Hank.
