Obituary of Anthony R Verga

Verga, Anthony R., age 85, formally of Wyckoff, died peacefully on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at his residence at Brandywine Senior Living at Middlebrook Crossing, Bridgewater, NJ. He was born in Passaic, NJ and had resided in Wyckoff for 52 years before moving to Bridgewater in April. Anthony was a parishioner of St. Elizabeth RC Church, Wyckoff and proudly served his country during the Korean War in the US Air Force. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as an Editor with the Newark Star Ledger for 25 years and previously he worked for the Paterson Evening News for 25 years. He was active for many years with Partners in Pride, Wyckoff, NJ, having served the organization as Chairman and was active with the Alumni of Fairleigh Dickenson University, Teaneck Campus. He was loyal faith filled and a generous man who taught by example how to be a loving husband, father, grandfather, neighbor and friend to all. Anthony is survived by his cherished daughter and son; Therese Squicciarini and her husband, Michael of Flemington, NJ and John Verga and his wife, Nancy of Morris Plains, NJ. He is also survived by his loving grandchildren; Frank, Joseph, Marie and Natalie Verga and Nicholas, Michael and Daniel Squicciarini. Anthony was predeceased by his beloved wife, Lauretta M. (Nee Chiswell) on April 14, 2014 and his loving son, Thomas Verga on June 1, 2013. Visiting hours will be held on Monday, Nov. 30, 2015 from 7:00-9:00 pm and on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 pm at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, www.vpfh.com, 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff, NJ 07481. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at 10:00 am at St. Elizabeth RC Church, 700 Wyckoff Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ with the entombment following at Calvary Cemetery, Paterson, NJ.
