Tony was always upbeat, even under ''deadline pressure.''
Anyone who worked with Tony at the Ledger knows this easy-going, willing-to-do- anything-to-help guy would be the one whose balding pate would appear on the cover of The Ledger with a clock dial with hands pointing to 12 and 2 as a reminder to either spring ahead or fall back!
He will be missed!

I knew Tony during my six years in the Newark office of The Star-Ledger. I was a writer in the Day Section, before moving to New York City, and have very fond memories of Tony's smiling face arriving in our section periodically to give us a bright and happy interval.
Tony was "a great guy" and that can be said of him without hesitation. He was a team player and a delight to work with. I am certain that he will be a wonderful asset in heaven, putting out a daily good news paper.
God bless him, may he rest in peace and may his family rest comfortably in the knowledge that he was well-loved as a fellow worker. It is a tribute to his influence that although I did not know him well, he left the kind of impression on me that required I share with you my happy memories.
God bless you all.

Tony was a dear friend and I always looked forward to seeing him at our old Herald-News luncheon reunions. Like me, Tony was an alumnus of the old Paterson Evening News. I was there 1948-51 and Tony followed me. We saw each other at Pica Club and other gatherings of newsmen. If memory serves me well, Tony followed me as president of The Pica Club in 1970. Tony was a fun guy, a family man and a consummate professional. I am a bit older, at 86, but Tony will be long remembered. My sincere condolences to the family.

Mr. Verga was a remarkable man who touched so many people by his gentle nature, love of good stories, and most of all, his devotion to family and God. I am a better person having known him. My condolences to John and Therese and their families. Your care and devotion to him was a beautiful testimony to the love that you had for him, and the good family values that both your parents instilled in you.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.
