Dear Susan, Tom, Jr. and Brian, Tom was one of the CBS News veterans who cherished the standards of excellence we all try to live up to. He managed to do it more often than many of the rest of us making him a person we looked up to. He was also a great guy and full of beans. I'll miss him a lot, and the building won't be quite the same without him. Judy Hole Producer CBS Sunday Morning

It's safe to say correspondents have their go-to editors, people you trust when it really counts and, who inherently know a story inside-out. That was Mac on both counts, especially when it came to sports. Being a "sports guy," I'd often pop into Mac's edit room to discuss the latest Lance rumor, Tiger rumble, or just the hot sports talk radio topic of the day. I knew he knew sports inside out -- would never let me down picking the perfect shot for an image or feeling I wanted to convey in a piece. I knew how much Mac wanted to go to 60. We all did. And when that moment happened, in a world where folks don't enjoy each other's success nearly enough, I was overjoyed for Mac. We all were. You had to be. The look on his face said it all. Now he's gone and it's hard for me, for so many of us, to come to grips with the fact we've lost one of the best damn editors, people, guys, I've met in this business. My deepest, heartfelt sympathy to his loving family. Armen

What a great guy. Even when Mac looked grumpy, you could give him a jab and he'd laugh. He was fun to be around and was one of the best "crashers" around. Not only was he an excellent editor, he was a team player. If anyone needed help he was there, even when he was crashing his own piece. Mac even got some of the editors of other generations through our transition to HD. That was rough, and he made it better. I saw Mac last week and he gave me a big hug. I teased him that he was "THE happy guy" for making out of the dungeon and into the arms of 60 Minutes. I'm really going to miss him. All my best to Susan, Tom and Brian.

Back in the 1980's, when I made the jump from local news to the network, Tom was the Supervising Editor for Weekend News. It was a big move for me; almost everything was different. Tom was the unflappable source of all information and wisdom. Recently, he had been filling in for us occasionally on SUNDAY MORNING. I was always hoping it could turn into something full time, but 60 MINUTES was lucky enough to get him instead. We will all miss him.
