The Thursday before Joey died, I stopped by to drop off the suit he purchased for the wedding. I started pulling ground cover from his backyard, he told me to be careful, he didn't want Anthony getting pissed at him (last year he cut them all down), but they grew back. So he helped me pull some up, I planted them today.

Don't grive for me, for now I'm free, I'm following the path the angel's laid for me. I took their hand when I heard him call, I turned my back and left it all. I could not stay another day, To laugh, to love, to work or play. Tasks left undone must stay that way, I found that place at the close of day. If my parting has left a void, Then fill it with remembered joy. A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss, These things, I too will miss. Be not burdened with times of sorrow, I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. My life's been full, I savored much, Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch. Perhaps my time seems all to brief, Don't lenghthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your heart and share with me, God wanted me now, He set me free. So they put their arms around me and whispered "Come with me." His golden heart stopped beating, Hard working hands to rest. The angel's broke our hearts to prove to us they only take the best.

Some of my fondest memories are from my childhood in Hoboken, NJ. Our families close and nearby. I had so many aunts & uncles and cousins close to my own age. I especially remember the eve of every New Year we were surrounded by family. We banged pots and pans and anything we could get our hands on. Those were the days! I remember one year my cousin Joey, 4 years older than me, grabbed the lids of our garbage cans banging them so hard to make us laugh. To me - he was the coolest. He didn't care that I was some little kid - he was a lot of fun to be around! He loved to play games – “Tag” and “Hide & Seek” in the old Hoboken buildings. It would drive the other tenants crazy to hear us run up and down the wooden stairs and the echoes of loud laughs of “you’re it!”. This coming New Year I'm going to honor these memories by banging pots and pans as my tribute to my cousin Joey. Guess someone in heaven needed to smile too.
