Obituary of John Kent
KENT, John Walter, age 56, died peacefully on Friday, June 19, 2009.
Born in Paterson, John moved to New York City --- after spending his childhood years in Oakland and the surrounding area --- in 1968 where he joined the revolution for Gay Rights and participated in the events at the Stonewall Inn on June 28 and 29, 1969 (after standing in line for 5 hours at Frank Campbell's to pay his respects to a friend of the family). In subsequent years he worked in New York City, Cherry Grove, New York and Chatham, New York.
John was predeceased by his parents Lillian and Jack Kent. He is survived by his beloved husband of 30 years Bruce Kimerer, his two brothers: Scott Kent and Mark Kent, his sister in law Lisa Convente, his two nephews: Matthew and Michael Convente, his dear cousins: Larry Kent, Sandy Kent, Jason Kent, Adam Kent, Melissa Kent, Christopher Kent and Nicole Maiolini, and his two Yorkies: Phoebe Kimerer-Kent and Watson Kent-Kimerer.
Friends may visit on Tuesday, 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home (www.vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff. Interment, Wednesday, 11:45 AM at Wyckoff Reformed Church Cemetery, Wyckoff.
