John has been my best friend for the better part of the last twenty years. Our birthdays are five days apart and we shared many years of celebrations as we added, inevitably, an additional year to our ages. We shared a love of the theatre, of old films and good food. John also dearly loved the community of Cherry Grove on Fire Island where he leaves behind many friends. He also leaves many loved friends in New York City, where his amusing and KIND personality endeared him to nearly everyone whose life he touched. I loved him deeply and nothing will every be able to fill the place he occupied in my life. "I took tips and was glad to get them!" as Ms Pierce said and so would John.
