Obituary of Harold Van Hassel

VAN HASSEL, Harold, age 87, died on Friday, February 20, 2009. Born in Clifton, he lived there until moving to Wyckoff in 1951. Harold served in the United States Army from 1942 to 1945. He was a Tank Destroyer Commander, landed at Utah Beach, and fought with the Allied Forces in the European Theater. After leaving the Army he was a Supervisor with the United States Postal Service in Clifton for over 30 years. He was a member of the American Legion and the American Postal Workers Union. Harold is survived by his loving wife Marilyn and his sons John Van Hassel of Helena, MT, and Douglas Van Hassel of Midland Park. He is also survived by his sister Marge Rinkerman of Clifton. Visiting Hours will be Tuesday, 11:00am to 1:00pm at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff, NJ www.vpfh.com. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm. Interment will be in the Cedar Lawn Cemetery, Paterson. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wyckoff Volunteer Ambulance Corps, PO Box 214, Wyckoff, NJ 07481, or Valley Hospice, 15 Essex Rd., Paramus, NJ 07652.
