The Judge was a friend to all. Prosecutors, Public Defenders and the Private Bar. Baseball fans, fishing enthusiasts and his flying buddies. In my 7 years with the Judge in PIP we laughed all the time. We laughed while we were hiding in his office smoking (Pat), when he was on the bench telling defendants there were no atheists in a fox hole right before he sent them to state prison even when we were waiting for the damn private bar to show up for a 10:30 ready hold at 12:15. Prosecutors loved to appear before him, not because he was pro-state but because we knew that we would get a fair shake no matter what kind of case it was or who the defendant or attorney was. You should know that the plaque we presented him when he left the bench was paid for by each of us individually because the office couldn't. Bill Galda and I were speaking about this today and he is the only judge in all of out time in the office that has been given a plaque by us. I thought you should know that because it should make it all the more precious as it was not a perfunctory gesture by our office but a heart felt one by each of us. Personally, he treated my kids like his own whether at the court house or when he came to their games which he did frequently. Ray loved flying with the Judge and his buddies and between the two of us we could probably have one hell of a garage sale on planes and everything that goes with it. Please accept our heart felt condolences on your lose. We will keep all of you in our thoughts and prayers forever If there is anything we can do just let us know. With love....Ray, Sue, Erika and RJ Voorman

The Judge was a true friend to all. Prosecutors, Public Defenders and the private bar. Kids of all ages, baseball enthusiasts as well as his flying buddies. He will be so truly missed by all of us. My seven (7) years with him in PIP were my favorite years in the Prosecutor's office. Joking all the time, running and hiding in his office and smoking with him and Pat. All the pleas, sentencings and even vops. He was always telling the defendants that there are no aetheists in a fox hole when they were looking at jail time. He was a true friend to the Prosecutors who appeared before him not because he was pro-state but because you knew that you would get a fair shake in his court room. You should know that the plaque he got from the prosecutors when he retired was paid for individually by each of us because the office could not. You should also know that between Billy Galda and I we have 24 years in the office and we have never given another judge a plaque. That is a tribute to the person he was. On a personal note he treated my children like gold both at work and play. He came to their games always with a smile on his face. Ray loved flying with the Judge and his flying buddies and I think between the two of us we could have one hell of a garage sale on planes, engines etc. Our heart felt condolences at this time. We will keep all of you in our thoughts and prayers now and always. If there is anything we can do do not hesitate to call. Ray, Sue, Erika and RJ Voorman

I was the case detective at the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office for the Samuel Bracigliano case ("Mr. B," school principal in Elmwood Park). When we were interviewing the children for the trial, we often brought them up to Judge Gaeta's courtroom so they could see what a courtroom looked like. Judge Gaeta always stopped what he was doing and took the time to speak to the children and make them comfortable. He was an honorable man, and known for his sense of justice. May he rest in peace.
