Obituary of George Martino

MARTINO, George, J. MD, of Wyckoff, died Monday, April 21, 2008 at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. George was born in Newark, NJ on August 12, 1935. He lived in Wyckoff for the past 27 years. His medical practice of Dermatology was at the Cedar Hill Medical Center in Wyckoff. George received his BA from Rutgers University in 1957 and his MS from the University of West Virginia in 1959. He then completed his medical studies at the University of Bologna in Italy in 1966. He was a member of the American Medical Association, the American Society of Internal Medicine, the American Academy of Dermatology, the International Society of Tropical Dermatology, the Society for Dermatologic Surgery, and the Bergen Medical Society. George was on the staff of the Valley Hospital and the Bergen Regional Medical Center. In addition to his practice he instructed medical students at the Bergen Regional Medical Center. Surviving is his loving wife of 37 years, Jean (nee Dente), his brother Felix G. Martino and his wife Linda, many nieces and nephews, and 6 great nephews. George also leaves his brothers-in law and sisters-in-law. George was pre-deceased by his parents, George C. and Mildred (nee LaScala) Martino. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 26, 2008 at 8:45 am from the Vander Plaat Funeral Home (www.vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ. Funeral Mass will follow 9:30 am at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 52 Passaic Street, Ridgewood, NJ. Interment will be in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover, NJ. Visiting is Friday, April 25, 2008, 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, P.O. Box 27106, New York, NY 10087.
