Obituary of Winifred Finnerty

FINNERTY, Winifred T. Age 102 of Wyckoff, died peacefully at her home, surrounded by family and friends on Thursday, April 10, 2008. Winifred was born the youngest of ten children in Belfast, Northern Ireland on November 16, 1905. She came to the United States in 1927, with her sister Josephine. Winifred was a resident of Brooklyn before coming to Wyckoff 23 years ago. She enjoyed over 40 years working as an Usherette at the Winter Garden Theater in New York City, and was a long time parishioner of St. Elizabeth's R. C. Church in Wyckoff. Surviving are her devoted daughters, Joan Baxer of Ramsey and Rosemarie McDonald of Allendale. Winifred also leaves 22 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by her husbands, Gordon Meehan in 1935 and John Finnerty in 2001, and her daughters, Frances Varrone, Anne Ulrich, and Mary Coyle. Funeral services will be held Monday 9:30 am from the Vander Plaat Funeral Home (www. Vpfh. Com), 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff. Funeral mass will follow 10:00 am at St. Elizabeth's R. C. Church, 700 Wyckoff Avenue, Wyckoff. Interment will be in the Ascension Cemetery in Monsey, NY. Visiting is Sunday 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm.
