Obituary of John Tiddes
TIDDES, John, J., age 80 of Waldwick, died on, April 6, 2008. John was born in Paterson, on December 22, 1927. He lived in Fair Lawn before moving to Waldwick 58 years ago. John was in the Navy during WWII on a submarine chaser. John was a Instrumentation Engineer for Curtiss Wright Corp in Woodridge from 1953 to 1983, then for John Deere in Woodridge for 10 years and then for Fiscal Operations in Miami, FL for 10 years. He was a member of the VFW Post 1049 in Waldwick, a member of Ramapo Mountain Amateur Radio Club call number WA2GYK and a lifelong NY Giants Fan. John was also the recipient of the Waldwick Citizens Valor Award in 1972 for saving the life of a child. Surviving are his children, Barbara and her husband David Casmay of Stewartsville, NJ, John and his wife Patti of Wilmington, VT, Maryellen and her husband Robert Tanis of Ringwood, NJ and James and his wife Heather of Pembroke, NH. John also leaves his grandchildren, Cynthia, Michael, Matthew, Mark, Erin, Robert, Kyle and Lindsay. He is also survived by his sister Carolyn Leonard. John is predeceased by his wife Barbara in 2005. Visiting is Thursday, April 10, 2 - 4 and 7 -8:30 PM with a funeral service at 8:30PM at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff, NJ 07481, www.vpfh.com. Cremation will be private.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Valley Hospice, 223 North Van Dien Ave., Ridgewood, NJ 07450.
