Obituary of Mary Sekela
Mary Sekela, 93, died peacefully with her family at her side on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at Hackensack Hospital. She was born in Clifton and graduated from Clifton High School. After marrying, she was a resident of Elmwood Park until moving to Wayne, where she lived for almost 30 years. Upon retirement, she moved to Surf City 30 years ago. She was a data processor at Curtiss Wright in Fairfield and ADP in Paterson before raising her two children. After moving to Surf City, she was involved in the development of the Ocean County Chapter of The ARC. She was a parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Beach Haven. Her husband Joseph T. Sekela died in 1992 and her sister Lillian Yaros died three years ago.
Survivors include her two daughters and son-in-law: Mary Jo Hoekstra and her husband Blaine and Kathy Sekela; two grandchildren: Douglas J. Hoekstra and Heather J. Hoekstra, and a nephew Steven Yaros.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 7th from 4:00 PM-7:00 PM at Vander Plaat Funeral Home (www.vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 8th, at 11:00 AM at St. Mary's Church, 17 Pompton Ave., Pompton Lakes. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers contributions in Mary's memory may be made to: Ocean County Chapter of the ARC, 815 Cedar Bridge Avenue, Lakewood, New Jersey 08701.
