Obituary of William Toth

Toth, William Joseph, 67, of Wyckoff, on Sunday February 3, 2008. Born in Manhattan, he attended Columbia University, where he met his wife Kathleen. William and Kathleen married in 1964. In 1968, William and Kathleen moved to Wyckoff, where they celebrated their fortieth anniversary as residents this January. William and Kathleen raised eight children in Wyckoff. In addition to being the sole proprietor of Cathedral Maintenance, Inc. for forty-three years, William taught theology at Seton Hall University's Immaculate Conception Seminary. He began teaching at the seminary after receiving a Ph.D. from Union Theological Seminary in New York City in 1990. Until the present, he was an active member of the Seton Hall faculty, teaching moral theology to seminarians preparing for the Catholic priesthood. In 2001, William was ordained to the deaconate. As a deacon, he served St. Elizabeth R.C. Church in Wyckoff. He preached regularly at the weekly five o'clock Mass on Saturdays. He also offered lectures on theology at parishes around Bergen County. William is survived by his wife Kathleen, their eight children and ten grandchildren. Their eldest daughter Jennifer and her husband John of Glen Rock are the parents of four children, Aidan, Jane, Elizabeth, and Lucy. Their daughter Regina and her husband William of Ridgewood are the parents of three children, Theodore, Hugh, and Helena. Their daughter Karen and her husband Joseph of Ridgewood are the parents of three children, Celia, Marie-Genevieve, and Vincent. Later this month, Michele, William and Kathleen's youngest daughter, will be married. William is also survived by his and Kathleen's four sons, Stephen, Joseph, William, and Michael. His eldest son, Fr. Stephen, is a Catholic priest, whose ministerial duties include visiting patients at Valley Hospital in Ridgewood. Joseph is an attorney in New Jersey. William, who recently married Nivi, is a member of the New York City Fire Department. Michael is an officer in the United States Marine Corps, currently at the Naval Justice School in Newport, R.I. Also surviving are his two sisters, Dorothy Tobin of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Rita O'Brien of Atlanta, G.A. Visiting Tuesday 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at St. Elizabeth R.C. Church, 700 Wyckoff Avenue, Wyckoff, N.J. A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth R.C. Church followed by the burial in Maryrest Cemetery, Mahwah, N.J.
