Obituary of Renate Sherwin

SHERWIN, Renate (Hausmann) age 63 of Palm Coast, FL formerly of Mahwah, NJ, died surrounded by her family on Tuesday, August 13, 2013. Renate was born in Wurzburg, Germany on May 14, 1950. She came to the United States 1955 settling with her family in Lancaster, NY. Renate was a 1972 graduate SUNY New Paltz, NY and received her Master's Degree from Middlebury College in 1976. She was employed by the North Rockland School District in Stony Point, NY until her retirement, when she and her husband moved to Palm Coast, FL in 2005. She enjoyed being a member of the Sweet Adeline's Chorus in Florida, along with numerous talented hobbies including, Stained Glass, Chocolate Molding and Knitting. Her greatest enjoyments were her grandchildren, Gavin and Maxwell who inspired her to fight her valiant battle with cancer for nearly 2 years. Surviving is her loving husband of 37 years, Jean Douglas, her devoted daughter Nicole and her husband Brian Leonardo of Montclair, NJ, her mother, Tatjana Hausmann, her brother, Arno Hausmann both of Mahwah, NJ and many other relatives. Funeral services will be held Friday 9:30 AM from the Vander Plaat Funeral Home (www.vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ. Funeral Mass will follow 10:00 AM at St. Elizabeth's R.C. Church, 700 Wyckoff Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ. Interment will be in the Maryrest Cemetery in Mahwah, NJ. Visiting is Thursday 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM. In lieu flowers memorial contributions may be made in Renate's name to the American Cancer Society, Bergen Unit, 20 Mercer Street, Hackensack, NJ 07601.
