Obituary of Otto Groel

Otto R. Groel, Jr., age 93, died peacefully on Tuesday, August 6, 2013. Born in Newark, he was a resident of Bloomfield for 62 years before moving to Longview Assisted-Living, Wyckoff, in 2012. Otto proudly served in the US Navy during World War II. Otto worked for PSE&G in crew and management positions prior to his retirement. He attained his business degree from Upsala College and was a member of Bloomfield Presbyterian Church on the Green, VFW Post 711, Destroyer Escort Sailors Association and Tin Can Sailors, Inc. He was predeceased by his wife Priscilla (1976), his son, David Kinsey Groel (1975), and his brother, Robert (2010). Surviving are his devoted daughters and their husbands; Lynn Groel-Lynch and Richard Lynch, Charlotte and Tom Williams, Christy and Tim Murphy and Esther and John Asilo. Otto "Faffa" will be remembered by his 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Receiving of friends will be held on Thursday, August 15, 2013 from 2:00 - 4:00 PM and 7:00 - 9:00 PM at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, www.vpfh.com, 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ. A Memorial Service will be held at Bloomfield Presbyterian Church on the Green, 147 Broad St., Bloomfield, NJ 07003 on Friday, August 16, 2013 at 12:00 noon. A private cremation will be held with Naval burial at sea to follow. In lieu of flowers, kindly make donations in his name to the Bloomfield Presbyterian Church on the Green - Building Fund.
