Obituary of George Conklin

CONKLIN, George I. Sr., 90, of Queensbury, NY, died at home after a short illness on Friday, July 26, 2013 surrounded by his children. Born in Midland Park, NJ, he lived in Lakewood and Wyckoff, NJ before moving to Queensbury, NY in December 2007. George was a sheet metal mechanic for Derrick's Sheet Metal in Totowa, NJ before his retirement. George was a very active member of the Wyckoff Fire Department, Community Engine Company #2 for 56 years joining on 12/17/1957. He served as past president of the WFD Association from 1991 to 2002 and was a lifetime member of the New Jersey State Fireman's Association joining in November of 1998. George was also a third degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus, Church of the Nativity, Midland Park, NJ. He was also nominated into the NRA millennium Honor Roll in November 2000. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 65 years, Lee, in 2010. Surviving are his three daughters, Leonore "Lee" E. Conklin of Escondido, CA; Kathleen T. (Conklin) Maiocco and husband Louis, of Queensbury, NY; and Mary J. (Dykhouse) Conklin of Haskell, NJ. Also surviving are his three sons, George I. Conklin, Jr. of Firebaugh, CA; Robert H. Conklin of Seaside Heights, NJ; and Richard N. Conklin and wife Patricia, of Greentown, PA. Also surviving are his 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren as well as two brothers-in-law, Richard Corn, Jr of Poquoson, VA and Henry Bock, Jr of Florida and several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday from 2-4 and 7 to 9pm at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, (www.vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Ave, Wyckoff, NJ. Funeral prayers will be Wednesday at the funeral home followed by the Funeral Mass at 9:30 AM from The Church of the Nativity, 315 Prospect Street, Midland Park, NJ. Interment will take place at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Hackensack, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Wyckoff Fire Department, Community Engine Company #2, would be appreciated.
