Obituary of Louis Infante

INFANTE LOUIS R., developer and engineer, who impacted the commercial and industrial footprint of Bergen County, died December 13, surrounded by his family at his home in HoHoKus, NJ. Mr. Infante was 87. For over 65 years, Mr. Infante worked in the construction trade, ultimately forming the family firm of Infante Associates of Ridgewood, NJ, whose projects include banks, office parks and large commercial retail space in the tri-state area. He expanded his field to include a full service real estate development organization; managing and operating a number of residential, commercial and retail properties in NJ. Mr. Infante's son, Mark, said that his father's buildings were monuments to his virtues- integrity, strength, perseverance and honesty. Mr. Infante was born in Lodi, New Jersey. He was a graduate of Casey Jones Engineering College and Farleigh Dickinson University. A navy veteran of WWII, he served as a navigator for landing ships that were part of the invasion force in the Pacific. In his off hours, Mr. Infante was an active Rotarian, serving as President of the Ridgewood Rotary and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a board member of the Bergen Museum and the Hermitage of HoHokus, NJ. As a past board member of the Board of Education of Waldwick, NJ, he was instrumental in building the Waldwick High School. Also, he was a member of the Ridgewood Country Club. His youngest son, Bruce stated, even though his dad was a hard-driving business man, he valued his family and private life. He was a glider pilot, avid car enthusiast and cigar aficionado. Louis Infante is survived by his wife, Marilyn (Leyrer), Mark Infante and his wife Rita; his son Bruce Infante; his sister Carole Infante and three grandchildren, Pamela, Christopher and Matthew. He was predeceased by his brother, Martin Infante of Ridgewood, NJ. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, 10:45 AM at Mount Carmel R.C. Church, 1 Passaic Street, Ridgewood. Interment will follow at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus. Relatives and friends are invited pay their respects on Thursday, 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Vander Plaat Funeral Home (vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Ave. Wyckoff.
