One year has passed since Dad has left this earth, and we miss him dearly. The most important lesson I have learned from him is about the importance of Family...We have so many memories with him that will fill our hearts for a lifetime...
He loved his family...Every Holiday was another reason for Dad to celebrate being with his family. In the grand scheme of things, we always had fun and we were never bored! If we needed help, he was there for us...From dog sitting to driving the grandkids to helping us in our homes...Dad was there when you needed him!
Dad never missed a Christmas with his family. He started asking us what we wanted on Thanksgiving Day, and of course he always told us what he wanted too! He had fun with his grandchildren and loved playing jokes on his grandsons...especially his oldest grandson, Kevin Patrick. Dad was so proud of his children & his grandchildren...he often bragged!
From our Easter Egg Hunts to the family Birthdays, and great Barbecues...Dad was always the fist one there, and the first one to ask...Where's the coffee!!! He played lawn games with his Children & Grandchildren, and he laughed as if he was with his best buddies....
Dad loved playing games...he was such a kid at heart! We need to remember that about him, and keep a little piece of that inside of us! We can only hope and pray that Dad is in a better place, and having a grand old time with all his loved ones that have left this earth as well...
Dad passed away on Cinco de Mayo, May 5, 2013, and although he is 100% Italian, it's ironic that on that day, Richard A. La Vigna received his Independence from the unfortunate pain and suffering we all must bear as humans at some time in our lives...Dad, we wish you the best food, music, games & dancing with all your people that the heavens have to offer!
RALV Forever in our Hearts ♥

I could share so many stories, however they would all have the same underlying message. Dad was always ready to help us, or anyone that needed help. He cut down trees for us, he helped us in our homes, he was our favorite pet sitter, he drove his grandchildren places and often picked them up late at night. He was also quite a character...He was a practical joker, he was very much a miser and complained that I spent too much money on things, he was a hard worker and never complained about working hard...and from that example we don't complain about hard work...A value that is not common in today's society.
In our youth he brought us on many hikes and nature explorations...Those memories have inspired my love for nature, exploring and hiking...Although, we often trailed behind him, sinking in quicksand and bitten by ticks, but we survived and made it out of the wild!
My love for home remodeling probably came from him...He always worked on the homes we lived in, and turned them into nice places to live...He made sure we had a pool in the summer, and than turned the pool into an ice skating ring in the winter...He loved mowing our lawns in his shorts and black socks smoking a cigar!
He was very proud of his grandchildren and bragged about them very often as you all know...His love for his family may have been shown in different ways...a product of his generation, but he loved all of us nonetheless.
Family meant everything to Dad...He took care of us.
In the end I got to take care of him...My dearest heartfelt memory will always be when I cleaned his mouth 2 weeks ago, and he said, "You're a good daughter," with the biggest grin.
I love you Dad, thank you for everything...Enjoy the big reunion in the sky and the heavenly trails!
Love forever,
Jan
