Obituary of Jerry Weinstein

WEINSTEIN Jerry, 83, of Mahwah, formerly of Wyckoff and Ridgewood passed away on Sunday December 4, 2011 following a long battle with Parkinson's disease. All who knew and loved Jerry will remember his love for music, dry wit, and many talents. He will be greatly missed. Jerry graduated from City College, NY with a B.S. in Geology. He began his career teaching science at the psychiatric unit at Bellevue Hospital. He received his M.B.A. in Education from Fairleigh Dickinson University. He taught special education and science in the Bergenfield school system during the 1970's and 1980's. Following retirement, Jerry volunteered with the Ridgewood Ambulance Corps. He and his wife Mary owned two wonderful bed and breakfasts in Ocean Grove. Jerry's passion was classical music, both as a listener and clarinet player. He received great joy playing in community bands, most notably the Ridgewood Concert Band and Waldwick Band. His other interests and hobbies included clock and classic car collecting, watching Mets games, long-distance cycling, camping, fishing and being an environmental activist. He is survived by his wife, Mary, whom he loved so dearly and who brightened his days; his daughter Bonnie Sarah Falk and husband Donald, and beloved grandson, Samson Elijah Falk, all of Oakland CA; three step-sons Douglas, Bruce and Duncan LaMonte and beloved step-grandchildren Joseph, Leanne, Magdely and Dianne. Jerry is also survived by his sister Beatrice Wolin and his niece Bobbye Wolin, both of Stoney Brook, NY. Friends may visit on Tuesday, 7-9 PM at Vander Plaat Funeral Home (vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff. A graveside service will be held, Wednesday, 11:00 AM at George Washington Memorial Park, corner of Paramus and Century Roads, Paramus. Please meet at the cemetery office at 10:45 AM. In accordance with the Jewish Faith, the family request to please omit flowers. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to National Parkinson Foundation, Gift Processing Center, P.O. Box 5018 Hagerstown, MD 21741-5018.
