Obituary of Michael Cervino

CERVINO, Michael age 82 of Mahwah formerly of Wyckoff died peacefully on Sunday, March 17, 2013. Born in Paterson, Mike lived in Wyckoff for over 40 years before moving to Mahwah 3 years ago. He owned and operated the first store front restaurant in Ridgewood for 8 years known as Cervino's. In 1968 he opened Cervino's Brickhouse Inn in Wyckoff which operated until 1986. In 1988 he opened Cervino's Wine Cottage in Ridgewood which he operated until 2006. He had served as President of the Ridgewood Chamber of Commerce in the 60's. As a young man Mike received an award from President Truman for his role for saving a woman from an oncoming car. Surviving is his loving wife of 59 years, Grace (nee Scordato), his devoted children, Michele and her husband Vincent LaBarbiera, Daniele and her husband Andrew Fede and Thomas and his wife Petra. Mike also leaves his 3 adoring grandchildren, Christina, Nicole and Christopher, his sister-in-law, Rose Cervino and his niece Marilyn Woodhull. Mike was pre-deceased by his parents, Thomas and Mary Cervino and his brother Patrick Cervino. Funeral services will be held Thursday, 10:30 AM from the Vander Plaat Funeral Home (www.vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ. Interment will follow in the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Totowa. Visiting is Wednesday 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Valley Hospital Auxillary, 223 N. Van Dien Street, Ridgewood, NJ 07450.
