Obituary of Aleck Harris

HARRIS, Aleck, age 90, died on Monday, March 4, 2013. Born in Simpson, PA, Aleck lived in Paramus before moving to Mahwah six years ago. He served in the US Army during World War II in the 64th Armored Infantry Battalion of the 16th Armored Division and remained active as a member of the 16th Armored Division Association. He was a recipient of the Col. Charles H. "Chick" Noble Award for distinguished service, loyalty and dedication to the Sixteenth Armored Division Association. Aleck was the owner operator of Harris Uniforms in Hackensack and a member of the Masons. He was also a tenor in the choir at St. Anthony's Orthodox Church in Bergenfield. He is survived by his daughters Cathy and husband John Banu of Mahwah and Donna and husband Robert Carbah of San Antonio, TX, as well as his eight grandchildren Michael, Elizabeth, Alexandra, Nicole, Roberta, Stephanie, Cassandra and Cheyenne. He is also survived by his sisters Mary Rozdilsky, Julia Mikulak and Olga Barna and his brother Vladimir Harris. Aleck was predeceased by his wife Mary in 2006. Visiting hours are Sunday 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 pm at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, www.vpfh.com, 257 Godwin Ave. Wyckoff, NJ. Funeral Service is Monday, 10:00am at St. Anthony Orthodox Church, 385 Ivy Lane, Bergenfield, NJ. Burial will follow at the Maryrest Cemetery in Mahwah. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Joan Allen Memorial Scholarship Fund at St. Anthony Orthodox Church.
