Obituary of James Boyan

BOYAN, James W., 62 of Wyckoff, formerly of Glen Rock, passed peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, November 28, 2011, after a valiant fight with cancer. Born in Hackensack, Jim grew up in Carlstadt, NJ and lived in Glen Rock for 25 years before moving to Wyckoff this past spring. Jim graduated from Bergen Catholic High School. He received an AB in history from St. Peter's College, an MBA from Rutgers University and a law degree from Seton Hall University. Jim served as Senior Vice President and General Counsel for Bell Atlantic Capital Corporation where he worked for 16 years, and after that had a private law practice in Glen Rock. He was a singer of every Irish song, baby whisperer, little league coach extraordinaire, long suffering (but passionate) Jets and Mets fan, the loudest cheerer on every sideline, a master of quotes and words, trivia champion, friend to many, stranger to none, faithful son, big brother to eight, uncle and cousin to a large Irish brood, proud father, father-in-law and grandfather, and loving husband. He is survived by his beloved wife Melanie; his children, Keara Kumler and her husband Kevin of Boston, MA; James W. Boyan III of Hoboken, NJ; Maura Boyan of Wyckoff, NJ; and Colin Boyan of Baltimore, MD, his granddaughter Claire Cecilia Kumler; his mother Maura K. Boyan of Sea Girt, NJ; his brothers and sisters: Marcy Boyan, Maureen and Steve Ward, William and Christine Boyan, Kathleen and Jeff Keehn, Peter and Jayne Boyan, Sean and Pamela Boyan, Peg and Rick Fischer, and Deirdre and Greg Heine. He is predeceased by his father, James W. Boyan II; his brother Joseph Boyan; and his niece Erin Boyan. Visiting hours are Thursday, December 1st from 7 - 9pm and Friday, December 2nd from 2 - 4pm and 7 - 9 pm at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, www.vpfh.com, 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ.
