Obituary of Alexander Patterson

PATTERSON, Alexander, age 87, passed away into the glory of our Lord's Kingdom on Saturday, February 23, 2013, at the Christian Health Care Center in Wyckoff. Mr. Patterson was born in Paterson, NJ, alumni of Paterson State, he was resident of Wyckoff since 1960. He served on the Wyckoff Township Committee, two terms as Mayor, and several years as police commissioner. He served for many years as chairman of the Board of Directors of AAA North Jersey. He was the Department Head of Underwriting with New Jersey Manufacturers Insurance in Roseland until he retired in 1990 after being with the company for 39 years. Al was an active member of the Abundant Reformed Church, formerly 2nd Reformed Church in Wyckoff. He was also the treasurer for State Senator McNamara and was Chairman of the Board of the North West Bergen Utilities Authority. He is survived by his children: Margaret Marra and her husband Charles of Waldwick, Alexander Patterson and his wife Nan of Lake Bluff, IL, William E. Patterson of AZ, and Jane McGookey and her husband Jeffrey of Caledonia, MI, and his grandchildren: Scott, Megan, Nicholas, Will, Michelle, Ian, and Mike. Al was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Henriette in 2004. Visiting hours are Tuesday 3 - 5 & 7 -9 pm at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, www.vpfh.com, 257 Godwin Ave. Wyckoff, NJ. Funeral Service is Wednesday, 10:00am at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Paterson.
