Obituary of Jacob Tolsma

TOLSMA, Jacob age 84 of North Haledon died peacefully on Monday, January 14, 2008 at the Christian Health Care Center in Wyckoff. Jake was born in Passaic on March 4, 1923. He lived in North Haledon for the past 45 years. He was a graduate of Newark College of Engineering with a BS and MS in Chemical Engineering. In 1988 Jake retired as a Chemical Engineer from Meadox Medical in Oakland. He served his country during WW II in the United States Army and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Jake was a member of the Cedar Hill Christian Reformed Church in Wyckoff where he served as Elder. Surviving are is his wife Betty (nee Botbyl), his children Eileen DeBoer (Paul) of Fillmore, NY, Brant Tolsma (Nancy) of Forest, VA, Faye Dyksen (John) of North Haledon, Jan Pennings (Brad) of Kalamazoo, MI, and Wendy Zwiers (Kevin) of Grand Rapids, MI, 25 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. Jake also leaves 4 step-children, 13 step-grandchildren, and 5 great step-grandchildren, and his sister Grace Busch. Jake was pre-deceased by his first wife Marion (Hoving) in 1986. A memorial service will be held Friday 11:00 am at the Cedar Hill Christian Reformed Church, 422 Cedar Hill Avenue, Wyckoff. Interment will be private in the Lodi Cemetery. Visiting is Thursday 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home (www.vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Eastern Christian School Association, 50 Oakwood Avenue, North Haledon, NJ 07508, or Christian Health Care Center, 301 Sicomac Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ 07481.
