Obituary of Alphonse Curcio

CURCIO, Alphonse T. "Springy" age 93 of Wyckoff and Hoboken, died peacefully on Monday, January 14, 2013. In his early career Springy served his country proudly in the United States Navy for 23 years spanning two wars. He was a flight engineer and flew with the Hurricane Hunters on well over 5000 missions. After his retirement from the Navy he spent 22 years as a Longshoreman working on the piers of New York City, Hoboken and Port Newark. He spent his golden years in St. Petersburg, Fl before returning to Wyckoff 13 years ago. He was a member of the Elks Club in Lyndhurst, NJ. Surviving is his devoted daughter, Kathleen Curcio and her husband Gary Zern of Wyckoff and his adoring grandchildren, Jude, Prudence, Layla, Jay, Jackie, David, 4 great grandchildren, his sister-in-law Martha and a number of nieces and nephews. Springy was pre-deceased by his wife of 53 years, Evelyn (nee Shields) in 2000 and his son Thomas also in 2000 and his brothers, Peter, Michael, and Joseph. Funeral services and Interment will be held in St. Petersburg, FL. Arrangements by the Vander Plaat Funeral Home of Wyckoff.
