Obituary of George Gimmi
GIMMI, George age 85 of Glen Rock, died peacefully on Friday, January 11, 2013 at home surrounded by his family. Born in Jersey City, George lived in Kearny before moving to Glen Rock in 1985. He was a truck driver for Acme Markets in Kearny for 25 years before his retirement in 1980. In his later career he started George's Appliance Service in Kearny, and was the founder of Doreen's Chocolates . George served his country proudly in the United States Merchant Marines during World War II. Surviving is his loving wife of 64 years, Carmela (nee DiMaulo), his devoted daughters, Linda and her husband Rod Bolten of Ridgewood and Doreen and her husband Les Miller of Glen Rock. George also leaves his 8 adoring grandchildren, Peter, Heather, Stephanie, Stephen, Sara, Kate, Eileen and Amelia and 7 great grandchildren, Olivia, Emma, Chloe, Adrianna, Nicolas, Lea and Weston. The Gimmi family will receive family and friends on Wednesday, January 16, 2013, 9:00 to 10:30 AM at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home (www.vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ. A funeral mass will follow at 11:00 AM at St Catharine's R.C. Church, 905 Maple Avenue, Glen Rock, NJ. Entombment will be in the Fair Lawn Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research (www.michaeljfox.org).
