Obituary of Sara Polizzi

POLIZZI, Rosaria, "Sara" age 94, of Oakland, died January 06, 2008. Born in Cefalu, Italy, she came to the United States with her parents as an infant in 1913. The family lived in Baton Rouge, LA and then moved to Brooklyn, NY in 1933 where she lived most of her life before moving to Oakland 10 years ago. Sara was an Administrator at Marsh and McLellan in New York City retiring in 1976. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, a member of the Oakland Seniors, Prime Timers, and the Red Hat Society. Sara is survived by her son Fred Polizzi and his wife Carmel of Oakland; her daughter Elizabeth "Betty" and her husband Tony Bertuna of Oakland, 4 grandchildren Patricia and her husband John Walker, Rosemary and her husband Joseph O'Connell, Michael and his wife Jaclyn Bertuna, and Lisa and her husband Eric Nef, and 3 great grandchildren Connor, Jack, and Kaitlyn. She is also survived by her brother Frank Sapienza of Rochester, NY, and her 2 sisters Josephine DiReda and Genevieve Sapienza both of Baton Rouge, LA. Sara is predeceased by her husband Barney in 1962 and her sister Mary. Visiting hours are Monday, January 7, from 7 - 9 PM , Tuesday, 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 PM at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home of Wyckoff, 257 Godwin Avenue Wyckoff, NJ (www.vpfh.com). Funeral Mass is Wednesday, 9:30 AM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 117 Franklin Avenue, Oakland. Interment will follow at St. Charles Cemetery, In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Make a Wish Foundation, 1034 Salem Road, Union, NJ 07083, or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942
