Betty Fry

Obituary of Betty Fry

Betty May Fry, age 99, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2020. Born in Milton, PA, Betty received her undergraduate teaching degree from West Chester State Teacher’s College, PA (now West Chester University) and her Masters of English from The Pennsylvania State University. Betty taught school in Milton before forging out on her own and settling in Fair Lawn, NJ, where she taught middle school English for more than 40 years in both the Fair Lawn and Maywood school districts. Throughout her career, Betty shared her joy and knowledge with all of her students and colleagues. She was passionate about travel, and each summer joined her close friends in visiting places all over the world from the pyramids of Egypt to the bustling streets of London and, of course, the sandy shores of the New Jersey coast. A passionate reader, she was involved in the College Club of Fair Lawn, the Book Club of Fair Lawn, and a memoir club. Betty will best be remembered for her feisty spirit and love of friends and family. Her nephews Robinson G. Fry and Horace B. King, nieces Marian Eves, Patricia Lee, and Karel Untermeyer, many dear friends, as well as many great and great-great nephews and nieces, survive Betty. While we cannot celebrate Betty's life together at this time due to Covid, we ask that you raise a glass of wine or cup of tea in fond remembrance until we can share one together in person in the Spring. Please visit the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, (vpfh.com), website in Wyckoff, as it will be updated once the Celebration of Life for Betty is confirmed.
