Obituary of Michael Hovaniak

Michael Hovaniak, 57, of Wyckoff passed away on June 27, 2020 while surrounded by his family. Born in Belleville on May 10, 1963 to Joseph and Anne Hovaniak, both deceased, he grew up in Lyndhurst. After graduating Seton Hall University in 1985, Michael spent close to 20 years working as a Logistics Manager for Federated Department Stores (Macy's). It was at Macy's where he met his wife, Janet, and they married shortly thereafter. Together they raised 2 amazing sons, Evan and Matthew, who Michael could not have been more proud of. Michael loved spending time outdoors whether caring for the yard, the pool or just enjoying time with friends and family. He loved to hunt, fish, fool around with the guitar, listen to music, and watch WW2 movies and documentaries. Weekend afternoons were spent either screaming at the TV while watching the Jets or cheering the Yankees on. He was a loving husband, father, and friend, who was always ready to lend a hand. Michael is survived by his wife Janet David Hovaniak, sons Evan and Matthew, and their loving dog, Belle, his sister Michelle Stecki and brother-in-law Bob, brother Mark Hovaniak and sister-in-law Lisa, sister-in-Law Sharyn Kessler and countless nieces, nephew and cousins who loved him dearly. Our family wishes to thank the doctors and medical staff of Memorial Sloan Kettering of Montvale for the amazing care they provided to Michael. We also wish to thank Valley Hospice nurses & aides, and Margret Allen for their comfort and support these past few weeks.
