Obituary of Aphrodite Nickles

Aphrodite (Nassy) Nickles, age 95, peacefully passed to heaven on April 13, 2020 at the Allendale Nursing Home, Allendale, NJ. Aphrodite “Dita” was born in Brockton, Massachusetts on January 6, 1925 to Louis and Pandora Nassy. In 1929, Dita moved with her parents to New York City to start a new life. After high school, Dita worked as a secretary for Frigidaire. She then met her husband, Constantine “Gus” Nickles. After having two children, Donna and Julie, they moved to Wyckoff where they had their third child, Steven. Dita and Gus lived in Wyckoff for over 40 years and were a founding family of the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Wyckoff. For many years Dita was active in the Philoptochos Women’s Group, cooked Baklava for the Annual Aegean Festival and she sure loved her Yankees! Dita continued to work as a secretary for First Jersey Savings and Loan, Citizen’s First, and Bank of America. She then retired in 1989 after the birth of her first grandchild, Michael, followed by an additional seven grandchildren that she loved dearly. Unfortunately, she was unable to meet her first great-grandson, Richard Dean due to the present pandemic, but he will be aware of her love in years to come. Dita is survived by her children: Dr. Donna Nickles of Wyckoff, Dr. Julie Nickles of San Marco, CA and Dr. Steven Nickles and his wife Debi Nickles; Grandchildren: Michael, Stephanie and her husband Richard, Ashley, Christine, Dean and his wife Monica, Alex, Kali and Greg; Great-grandson: Richard Dean. Dita is predeceased by her husband, Constantine “Gus” in 2003 and her brother, Ernest. All services will be private followed by burial at Wyckoff Reformed Cemetery. The Nickles family wishes to thank the staff of Allendale Nursing Home for all their support, care and love, as well as Valley Hospice for their guidance and professionalism during her final days. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 467 Grandview Ave., Wyckoff, NJ 07481.
