Obituary of Harold Holden

Harold "Lucky" Holden, 77, died Sunday, November 25, 2012. Born in Oak Park, Illinois, he lived in Franklin Lakes for the past 47 years. He attended Duke University where he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. Lucky began his career in overseas shipping in Chicago, Illinois before moving to Europe where he worked in Oslo, Norway, Rotterdam, The Netherlands and London, England. He was president of Great Lakes Overseas, Inc. in New York City, executive vice president of Trans Freight Lines in Rutherford, NJ and was the managing director of the Trans Atlantic Associated Freight Conference before his retirement in 2000. Lucky was an avid skier, biker, golfer and tennis player. He was a member of the High Mountain Golf Club, the Indian Trail Club and served on the Franklin Lakes Environmental Commission. His survivors include his wife of 55 years, Carole Webb Holden, his daughter Leslie Holden of Wyckoff, son Michael of Ramsey and grandchildren Michael of Southport, NC, Matthew Holden of Ramsey, Kaitlyn, Andrew, Meghan and Luke Imperatore of Wyckoff and great grandson Christopher Shane Holden. The Holden family will receive family and friends on Thursday, 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home (www.vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff. Funeral services will be held Friday, 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Cremation will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be in Lucky's name made to the Lustgarten Foundation, (www.lustgarten.org), 1111 Stewart Avenue, Bethpage, NY 11714.
