Obituary of Jean M. Tobin

Jean Marie Tobin (Finan), age 86, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2020 at her home in Saddle River, NJ. Jean and Tob were married for 62 years. Her lifetime vocation was raising her family and being a devoted wife to her husband. Her selfless determination to compassionately care for Tob in their home for the last six years was a true testament to their love. Jean was born in White Plains, NY, to Peter William Finan and Margaret Loretta (Regan) on August 5, 1933. She graduated from Pleasantville High School. Jean enjoyed crossword puzzles, sudoko, bowling, playing bridge, traveling with her husband, and spending time with family and friends. She enthusiastically looked forward to her trips to Atlantic City and in more recent years she enjoyed playing slots on her iPad. She especially cherished time with her grandchildren and was excited to learn how to text, e-mail and FaceTime with them. Jean is survived by her beloved husband Vince (Tob) ; daughters: Rosemarie Tobin (Morey Vrooman), Pat Sargent (Jerry III), Debra FitzPatrick and son Vincent (Vinny) Tobin; brothers: Bill Finan (Maureen), John Finan (Ann), a sister Patricia King (Peter); grandchildren: Jerry Sargent IV, Joe Sargent, Matt Sargent, Tess FitzPatrick, Billy FitzPatrick, step-grand-daughter Tracy Gibeau (Marc), step-grandson Chris Vrooman; many nieces, nephews and extended family. She was predeceased by her parents Bill and Loretta Finan, her brother Jim Finan, and sister-in-law Lucille Finan. Memorial Donations in Jean’s memory may be made to Church of the Presentation, ℅ Pastoral Care, 271 West Saddle River Rd., Upper Saddle River, NJ 07458. We wish to extend our gratitude to Jiri and Helena for the special care and assistance to Jean and Tob over these past years and to Peggy for her weekly visits to give Jean communion. Visitation for Jean will be from 2:00 – 3:30 p.m. with a funeral service commencing at 3:30 on Tuesday, March 31, 2020 at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, (vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Ave. Wyckoff. Due to the virus there will be a limit of 8 people at a time in the viewing room.
