Mary was one of the most intelligent, interesting and charming people I have ever known. To say nothing of her bridge brilliance. We spent many an afternoon at her home enjoying bridge and her generous hospitality. One of her bits of wisdom:down one is good bridge. She really was a wonderful person. I will always miss her.

Memories of Mary..........
Where and when did we first meet? It was a number of years ago at a Bridge game, naturally. At first glance and after chatting a while I knew for certain that this sparkly lady was very interesting, indeed, and that I would like to spend more time in her presence. This first impression proved to be absolutely true and became many hours spent together playing Bridge, laughing, sharing stories and sometimes even a little gossip. When at my home Mary was always complimentary as to my attempts at producing art. I encouraged her to also pick up a brush which she did, I know.
Mary had the uncanny gift of eliciting episodes out of her friends' lives which I am sure they had no intention of sharing originally. In my case it was how I met my second husband. I had been widowed at 48 and after three years felt lonely and had not met anyone interesting. So I put a personal ad in the newspaper and lo and behold, one of the numerous replies was from Bill with whom I spent 18 happy years in Florida. Mary just loved that story. After he passed I moved to New Jersey in 2006.
Mary was always optimistic and cheerful no matter what pain or sorrow was also present. She was an inspiration which I attempt to follow. She was a kindred spirit to me in always being hopeful and forward looking. Her life was a gift to all of those friends she so dearly and generously loved. An what a terrific Bridge player she was!
I will always remember Mary and how she loved her sweets, her sparkly laugh and her ever present friendship.
I miss you sweet Mary!
I extend my condolences to all those whom she loved.

Its interesting how someone who you had met a handful of times in your life can make an impact on you. For me this was Mary. I only new her has Nana, and although she was not my grandma, she felt like family. What I found most inspiring about her personality was how easily she could spark up conversation, but not just simple conversation to fill time, but meaningful, personal conversation. She created a dialogue that made me feel important, that she genuinely valued what I had to say and cared about my life and my career. That is something I cannot forget. She was a wonderful woman, and I'm upset that I didn't get to know her more personally too. However, one may argue that I get something better though. She left an amazing legacy behind her and the values she lived by are instilled in her daughter and granddaughter. The memories of her will grow within my niece and nephew and for that I'm grateful. The world may have lost an inspiring woman, but she will be remembered and felt by many in heart, soul and character.

Lovely, lovely Mary. I will miss her very much. Met her at the bridge table and she was good...very good! I learned a lot from her and continued our friendship over the bridge table. It was sad when she could no longer come out to play, but Mary never gave up on anything she did. And so, she had foursomes come to play at her house with lunch and cards! A wonderful afternoon. Mary was very smart, very interesting and a lot of fun. She will be missed by everyone who knew her. God bless her and keep her.

Dear Jeanne and family. I'm so sorry to hear of your mom's passing. This is always such a difficult time. Somehow, with the passing of time, it gets a little easier and a little less painful to remember all those special moments you shared together. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. I can remember one of the earliest moments that I met Mary (who I quickly came to think of affectionately as Nana). She took such an intense interest in who I was, wanting to "know my story," as she would say. Being reticent and somewhat reserved by nature, I confess to have been a bit intimidated and feeling under the microscope; a matriarch of the family sizing up her granddaughter's then-boyfriend. But I came to realize that Nana was as caring and kind a soul as I could imagine. Her heart had enough room for everyone, even me in my role at that time. To paraphrase Nana, everyone has a little bit of good in them and is trying the best that they can. I think of those words frequently and try to live by them daily.
I've since been so fortunate to have joined this beautiful and loving Gleason family. Nana always made me feel welcome and wanted. I have fond memories of holidays together, over-night trips in New Jersey, shopping trips, vacations, even emergency pit stops on the way to college or, more recently, for two little great-grandchildren who just needed a break from a long car ride. Nana's house was inviting and warm, she would drop everything to have us. Fast-forward 15 ought years, and most recently Nana told me that I was a great father. Coming from someone who has dedicated herself to others and spread so much joy to her family and friends, I was touched.
I will remember her empathy and compassion, her jovial nature and disposition. I like to think of these attributes as models to live by, both for myself and for my children (i.e. Nana's great-grandchildren). Nana's spirit lives on though these lessons and the smiles she leaves behind in this world.

I remember meeting Mrs. Gleason when Jeanne and I were in college. We had tea at her lively home in Whitestone. Mrs. Gleason was a very gracious lady and I was struck by how she really listened to you when you spoke to her. She gave you all of her attention and asked interesting questions. She remained the same wonderful listener through all the years I knew her.
I also saw what a beloved mother and grandmother she was to her family. Her face would be filled with joy whenever she was with her family.
She leaves a beautiful legacy of love and family. May we all take her way of listening and making people feel special. The world will be a better place if we do. My family and I send our heartfelt condolences, love, and prayers to her family. God be with you all.

Aunt Mary will be dearly missed. I have such fond memories of my visits to New York and New Jersey. Mary generously showered her niece and nephews with love, compliments and gifts. During our time together, she shared her passions for the piano, painting, and card-playing. She was a wonderful teacher and encouraged us in many ways. I am so thankful for the friendship and bond that she had with my dad. Although miles apart, they found time to chat regularly and brag about their grandchildren together. Most of all, Mary taught us all to be a little more generous with others and with ourselves. What a treasure to have had her in our lives.

Whenever I was with Mary at Family Gatherings, she made me feel like a better person. What I mean is that she had a caring and empathetic way of seeing the good in you, no matter what trouble you may be going through.
She knew and understood how grateful I was for finally being blessed with my three daughters, to such an extent that while at a Gallery she saw a painting of three girls gathering shells by the ocean, and she bought me a print of the painting! I had it framed, and think of her every time I look at it.
Her kindness had no end. I will miss you Mary.
With Love,
Kathryn

My favorite memory of Mary (or Nana, as my cousins call her) was when she came to watch me perform in my high school musical almost 11 years ago. For years afterwards, whenever we gathered together, she would rave about that performance to anyone who would listen, proudly describing my entrance and how much she loved hearing me sing. I'm not sure if she ever knew how much that support and enthusiasm meant to me. Mary wasn't my grandmother by blood, but she was one of my biggest fans and cheerleaders at a time when I really needed it. Because what more could a sad and lost teenager need than the unapologetic love of a grandmother?
Mary was a force of love and positivity to her family and friends. Her loss is a devastating one, but the impact that she had on those with the privilege to have known her will always be with us.

It is impossible for me to reflect upon my life thus far without feeling the love and presence of Nana. Her spirit, influence, and love will forever be a part of me. I will always hear her telling me how much she loved us, especially her great grandchildren. Elizabeth and Brody will always know who she was, how much she was loved, and how much she absolutely adored them. One thing I will miss the most is her talking and singing to Elizabeth and Brody during our almost daily phone calls. I can’t help but feel that her love of reading that she shared so generously with me helped influence my decision to become a reading teacher. I have so much to be grateful for because she loved me, and because she existed. Love you forever, Nana.

I have known "Mrs. Gleason" since I was 3 years old. However, my mother, who was Mary's very dear friend, would remind me that I met Mrs. Gleason when I was 3 MONTHS old ! I have such wonderful and fond memories of spending so many summers with the Gleasons together. During those summers in upstate, New York, I loved being in their home or at the beach where I would hear great stories and many "words of wisdom" from Mrs. Gleason. Till this day I carry those wise words and advice with me. One such advice was " just smile"...Two simple words but they had such a profound affect on me ...I always think of those two words you said to me when I was around 6 years old. Almost 60 years later I can still hear you say that to me. I will miss you but I will "just smile" because of you !
God Bless you and your entire wonderful family !

I only have known Mary for about 6 years. From the first day I met Mary with her husband, I could tell what a kind, loving and intelligent person she was. She played bridge at our church and the ladies in the bridge club always spoke so kindly about Mary. It was always wonderful to see how much Mary enjoyed being with her family and especially watching musical performances by Jack and Liam. She could talk for hours about how proud she was of her grandchildren. Of course witnessing the beautiful relationship between Mary and Louise was also really special. The two were ever so close and truly enjoyed each others company. Mary you lived a beautiful life and leave behind many wonderful memories and a loving family. God bless you.

Mom,
You were such a strong, loving, generous and beautiful person. You taught me so much, and are so deeply embedded in the fabric of who I am. You will cotinue on through me, and through all of us, always. You are present in my heart and mind, you are present in how I look at the world, you are present in how I love my children and family, and you are even present now to help me find comfort. The essence of you, your love and positivity, will never die and will be carried on by all of us.
I will miss your beautiful spirit and smile, your humor and wonderful laughter, your stories, and your remarkable wisdom and guidance. You loved us so unconditionally and so wholeheartedly, and I know you will still be cheering us on and loving us just as much.
You were an extraordinary mother and grandmother. Your legacy is love. Thank you for being who you were.
I love you Mom.

RIP, Mrs. Gleason. Armando has been my friend since high school, and I’ve known Jeanne snd her family since they began dating. I married my first wife in Korea in January 1978 while stationed there in the Army. We returned to the US in April of that year, and there was much trepidation on Sukle’s part, as well as my own, on how she would be accepted. I will never forget how welcoming Mary was when she met my wife, and later, my mother-in-law (who didn’t speak a word of English). Mary’s love and kindness (as well as her husband, Martin’s) made a big difference in our lives. She will be missed.
