I knew Rajeev and his sister Kavita as kids when we were neighbours in Bandra. I have been associated with his Mumbai operations since 2001, when he opened his office in Mumbai and am eternally grateful to him for thinking of me to look after his office here. He was responsible for so many happy lives as we grew from a staff of 5 to 95. Anyone who met him was inspired by his pleasant and ever smiling face, his humour and good nature. We at IN NET India will always cherish his memory as a benevolent boss who cared for his employees. We learned a lot from him in terms of hard work and commitment. We will miss him but continue to take care of his business at this end and support Lovina and Rohan.

Rajeev was a consistent figure in my life since my earliest memories, and he, along Aunty Kavita who I had good fortune to get to know later, was always very warm and generous with me and my brother, Rory. I was really sad to hear when he was sick and more so with his passing, which came too soon. Our mom, Doreen, who like everyone else had always liked him a lot, was also upset to hear the news and wanted to express her empathy. I have many memories of him that I’ll keep always as well as with Rohan, Trisha, and Lovina, who my heart goes out to. He was very close with my dad, his cousin Ramesh, as the two of them had always seemed like peas in a pod in incredible ways that can’t be replaced and won’t be forgotten. He also connected us with a side of the family that I hope to continue to be a part of. I of course also hope to remain in close touch with Rohan, Trish, Lovina, and Kavita as well. I’ll always be reminded of his one of a kind good nature, wisdom, generosity, and especially his quick smile, laughter, charming banter, and winning humor, as he is someone who has unknowingly left an eternal impression.

Shocked and benumbed. Still coming to terms with the hard reality that Rajeev - you are no more.
Loved and admired how effortlessly Rajeev balanced between his relaxed, convivial personality and humility with fierce resolve to get things done to add value to clients, relationships and networks.
So many fond & cherished memories: four blissful days in the Maldives, where we'd start drinking at 9.00 am, because, as Rajeev reminded us, "it was on the house!"; at their lovely Tribeca apartment, in New York, where we soulfully gazed into our future over the Manhattan skyline and how he flew down to attend our wedding in New Delhi, just to name a few.
Need to resort to the cliche, popularized by Billy Joel, "Only the Good Die Young".
Lovina, while nothing can ever fill the irreplaceable void left by Rajeev, may God give you the forbearance and courage to collect the broken threads of your life to bravely soldier on. Peace be upon you.
Rest in Peace, my friend.

Lovina is my cousin & wife to Rajeev. We grew up in the same joint family home and her father was my dads elder brother. I got to know Rajeev much later in life but always knew him as her protector, husband and father to their two lovely children. A few dinners, laughs & he share a similarity with the Gidwani’s - living life to its fullest! He loved food, travel, life, family and his work.
I believe he has gone too soon and would have contributed plenty more to our world. A good man but in spiritual text he is required by our creators side to be one more warrior to fight to the good of mankind and will be the guardian for his family where he can do more from where he is. God bless the family to have the strength to deal with the lack of his physicality but believe in his greater aura.

I am Rajeev’s cousin, Ramesh. His mother and mine were sisters, and so we shared a maternal grandmother. But our ties to each other were much more than just that. I loved him dearly and deeply, and share tears of sorrow with his wife, children and sister. I am 10 years older so I never thought that he would predecease me, and I was totally unprepared for this sorrow. In some ways we had the same boisterous and rambunctious personalities, but his was sharper. Beneath that rough-hewn exterior was a very kind and generous man, who loved and cared deeply for his friends and family. He was also a very successful parent, husband, sibling, and businessman. That package in one human being is truly rare.
When his father abandoned them, Rajeev, his sister Kavita, and his mom, Goody (Renu) auntie, lived a difficult life. I think Rajeev resolved that he would work to be well-off, and he succeeded brilliantly. Not through credentials and connections, but by innate street smarts, hard work and business acumen. I know he taught himself programming, ascended the ladder at Solomon Bros., and later as a consultant outsmarted and served his clients. Of course, they thought he was worth it. He lived large, enjoyed life, and his company was a source of great pleasure.
I first met him when he was two (1958), in our Aunt Lallari’s flat in Bombay, and we never lost touch. Our families visited each other often in India, and then in the US. I don’t think I ever had a disagreeable moment with him (in spite of his politics!). So I have many memories to share about dear Rajeev, some of which some of you may have heard from me, but are worth repeating.
When he was two, and his dad was napping belly-up, the two-year old brat ran into the room and vaulted onto his Dad’s not flat belly. The very rudely awakened parent post-shock said gently, ‘Beta, ainsa naheen karte hai’. I thought Rajeev had merited his first ‘thapad’.
Once he was pet-sitting a truly mangy mutt on a rainy day in NYC. We decided to visit our older cousin Baby (and her Mithu) at their townhouse in Mount Kisko (?). The dog was as trained as we were in gracious living; the cur ran roughshod with wet paws all over their house and furniture. Rajeev’s charm didn’t quite work the magic it usually did.
One time when we went skiing at Heavenly, in CA, arriving late but too early for a half day ticket for my teenage son, Ryan. Of course we started bargaining with the ticket guy. I don’t remember whether we got the discount, but Ryan did ski for the afternoon. Ryan told me later how discombobulating the experience must have been for the employee to see both our faces jammed against the window, cajoling him.
I remember going to his parent’s wedding in Delhi (1955!), and his Dad's, (Moti) cremation in Manhattan. Mithu was there too, but said, just to make sure that Moti was not playing another disappearing trick! :)
I have the cutest pic of Rohan playing the piano with my boys at a Christmas visit to us in Sacramento. And another of Rohan with us at the WTC observation deck – I think Trisha was not launched yet.
A couple of years ago we went to Healdsburg, CA. This time I had Bonzo, my friend’s extremely well-behaved Westy. Rajeev (or Lovina?) had objected to the dog coming, but his behavior won them over to the extent that Bonzo got a seat at the lunch table. Again, I have pics to prove this.
My last vision of a healthy Rajeev was last July, when Trisha ran the SF Marathon. The proud parents were there, and Rajeev treated all of us and her friends to a gorgeous lunch on a very hard to beat beautiful day on the SF Embarcadero. Trish is this very successful reporter for the SF Chronicle, and I remember her parents and I saying, “Who would have thunk’, and, ‘Who knew?’.
I will forever remember and miss him and stay close to his family. Rohan was a very bright student, and is now running Claim Power very successfully. I am sure he had personality clashes with Rajeev, more so than Trish. But they are both, in their different ways, off-springs to be very proud of. Lovina and Rajeev did a terrific job with them.
Lovina, Rohan, Trisha and Kavita deserved more years with the vigorous joy of Rajeev as a husband, father and brother. At the right time, we will all celebrate Rajeev’s life, and look back with warmth and love at how much he meant to all of us.

Rajiv was wonderful human being. We met Rajiv and Lovina one day in the early 1990s when Chitra and myself were walking by the middle school on Harristown Road in Glen Rock. Since then we have been close to the Thadani family. I still remember how he would greet me in broken Bengali “ Dada kemon Aachen?”. His enthusiasm for life was iinfectious! I am sure he is still enjoying a hearty laugh in heaven!
