Obituary of Anna Leentjes

Anna (Ann) Leentjes, 85, of North Haledon went to her heavenly home on February 16, 2020 after a valiant battle with a long illness. Her devotion to family and her grounded belief in God supported her in life and gave her eternal peace. Ann was born to the late Stella and Cornelius Vriesema on September 17, 1934 in Midland Park, NJ. She was immersed in the Christian community from an early age. After she graduated from Ramsey High School she met and married the love of her life, Frederick (Fred) Leentjes in 1954. He adored Ann and often referred to her as “the wind beneath his wings”. They were blessed with four children and raised them with a healthy balance of faith, love, and discipline. She encouraged her children to follow God's word and reminded them that “family is the most important thing in life”. Ann kept her family's bond strong and was most content surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She loved traveling and planning family vacations, always picking up special gifts for everyone along the way and hiding them away until Christmas and birthdays. Christmas was her favorite holiday. Along with raising her family, she helped her husband run a successful masonry company from 1958-2007 performing all of the book keeping. Anns kind and giving demeanor throughout her life touched the hearts of many. Her signature sweet laugh and smile was infectious and will never be forgotten. She is survived by her devoted children Paul and wife Tina of East Springfield, NY, Brian and wife Alison of Chester, NY, Brenda Leentjes of Butler, NJ, and Robert and wife Danyelle of Pagosa Springs, CO. Ann also leaves her adoring grandchildren Zach, Eli, Aaron, Nathaniel, Shane, and Heath, and her sister Patricia Stinson of Prospect Park, NJ. Also Ann was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Frederick Leentjes in 2007. Visiting hours are from 3-5 p.m. on Friday at the Holland Christian Home, 151 Graham Ave, North Haledon, NJ. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Holland Christian Home. Memorial contributions in Ann’s name can be made to Valley Hospice or The Holland Chrstian Home.
