Obituary of Robert D. Hopken
Robert D. Hopken passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at the age of 68. Born in Jersey City, NJ he was a long time resident of Vernon, NJ. Robert was employed at Montana Construction in Lodi as a Project Manager. He was a lifetime fly fisherman and volunteered his time at Kids on the Fly in Lafayette, NJ. He was a member of the Catskill Fly Tyers Guild in Livingston Manor, NY, and was a professional fly tyer for Enrico Puglisi Flies. Robert attended and played football at Auburn University where he remained a loyal fan and shared that love with his daughters and son-in-law. His commanding presence and the smell of his pipe will be remembered and missed by all who knew him.
Robert is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 47 years Susan; his two daughters who affectionately called him “Papa” Amanda B. Hopken; Meredith B. Hopken, her husband John “Chip” Switzer; his mother-in law Elaine Letsche and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 10, 2019 from 2-4 & 7 – 9 p.m. at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, (vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff. The committal service and interment will commence on Wednesday, December 11th at 11:00 a.m. at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus.
