Obituary of Edward Kohere

KOHERE, Edward J., age 77, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, December 04, 2007. Born in Lodi, he lived in North Haledon for the past 42 years. A graduate of Rutgers University where he received a BS degree in business administration, he was a CPA with KPMG Peat Marwick. He joined Columbia Savings Bank of Fair Lawn in 1964 as vice president/comptroller. He became president and chief executive officer of the bank in 1989 and served in that roll until retiring in 1993. He then went on to become vice chairman of the bank's board in 1994 and chairman of the board in 1995 and held that position until 2003. Mr. Kohere was a member of Cedar Hill Christian Reformed Church of Wyckoff where he served as elder. He was a past board member of Eastern Christian School Association and the Christian Health Care Center and he also served on the finance committee at Eastern Christian Children's Retreat. He served his country during the Korean War in the United States Army. He is survived by his beloved wife Wilma (nee Teitsma) to whom he was married for 51 wonderful years, his three children; Ed and his wife Laurie of Colorado Springs, CO, Barbara Fischer and her husband Austin of North Haledon, and Linda Vandenberg and her husband Bernie of Midland Park. He also is survived by eight grandchildren; Ryan, Kelly and Sean Fischer, Melissa, Tim and Julie Kohere, and Kyle and Megan Vandenberg. He was predeceased by his son John in 1963. Friends may visit the family on Friday, 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Ave. Wyckoff. Following a private service of committal and interment at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus, a memorial service will take place on Saturday, 11:00 AM at Cedar Hill Christian Reformed Church, 422 Cedar Hill Ave. Wyckoff.
