Obituary of William Irving Mefford
William I. Mefford age 88 of Waldwick, died Friday, November 15, 2019. Born in Hoboken, Bill lived in Waldwick for most of his life. Bill was a 1950 graduate of Ramsey High School and served his country proudly in the United States Air Force. He worked in the Waldwick Post Office starting as a carrier in 1955 and was promoted all the way up to Postmaster in 1974. He retired in 1989. He loved the town of Waldwick and was involved in many town organizations from Little League Baseball, Boy Scouts, Graduation Balls (including the first one in 1966) and attending sporting events of his children and grandchildren. He loved music and dancing especially doing the polka with his wife. He enjoyed many years of camping and travelling with his family.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 65 years Joan. Devoted father of two children son Roger Mefford and his wife Lisa and daughter Jill DiCanio and her husband Michael. Loving grandfather of Brandon Mefford and his wife Tina; Christopher Mefford and his wife Desiree; Tyler Mefford and his wife Joelle; Jason DiCanio and Shawna DiCanio. Proud great grandfather of Jayden, Noah, Bella and Hudson. He is also survived by two brothers, Roy Mefford and his wife Arlene and Robert Mefford and his wife Ursula, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Bill has been a member of the United Methodist Church in Waldwick where he met his wife, married, raised his family, taught Sunday School and served in all positions. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in William’s name to The United Methodist Church of Waldwick, 25 Franklin Turnpike, Waldwick, NJ 07463.
A memorial service will be held at the United Methodist Church of Waldwick on Saturday, November 23, 2019 at 1:00 p.m.
