Obituary of C. Evelyn McKnight
C. Evelyn McKnight passed away peacefully on Monday, July 1, 2019, at the age of 96, following a brief illness. Born and raised in East Rutherford, New Jersey, she was a longtime resident of Ridgewood and Waldwick before moving to Midland Park. She also maintained a home for many years in Bedford, New Hampshire. After high school, Evelyn joined the U.S. Navy where she proudly served during WW II, being stationed in Williamsburg, VA. Before retiring in 1983, she was a Switchboard Operator at Bergen Pines Hospital in Paramus. Evelyn was a member of the Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ridgewood for many years. Her husband James F. McKnight passed away in 1980. She is survived by her two cherished daughters: Linda McKnight, her husband Julius VandeKopple; Janice Belmont, her husband Judson; four grandchildren: Cheryl, Erica, Judson, and Jonathan; and three great grandchildren: Julia, Miriam and Samuel. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 5, 2019 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, (vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff. The funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus where military honors will be rendered.
