Obituary of Rosalyce Monks

MONKS, Rosalyce "Missy" H. (nee Costa) of Saddle River, formerly of Ridgewood, passed away, surrounded by her family on October 26, 2012. She was a graduate of the University of Alabama and was a lifelong fan of the Crimson Tide. Missy expressed her creative talent through pottery, gardening and glass bead making. She excelled in the culinary arts which delighted the taste buds of family and friends. Missy volunteered and inspired the students of St. Patrick's School in Jersey City (the twinning parish of The Church of the Presentation in Upper Saddle River). Presentation was her parish where she also generously shared her time and talents through several ministries. She was an active member of her small Christian community. Above all Missy loved people, selflessly giving to the various needs of her family and friends. She enthusiastically and routinely cared for, supported and nurtured her many grandchildren. Missy will forever be remembered for her passion for life and treasured sense of humor. She is survived by her loving husband James J. Monks, MD (married June 16, 1962), their eight children, spouses and ten grandchildren; Elizabeth and Sean McCormack and their son Thomas, James Jr. and Kathleen Monks and their daughter Ava, Tony and Monica Monks and their daughters Audrey, Hope and Tess, Michael Monks, Joseph and Megan Monks and their sons Benjamin and Ian, Robert and Noreen Monks and their children Michael and Madison, Frank and Elena Monks, OD and their son Aiden, and her very loving daughter Alyssa Monks. She is also survived by her brother and his wife Frank and Gail Costa, her sister Robin Costa and countless other dear relatives and friends. She is predeceased by her parents Frank Costa, DDS and his wife Hazel of Lodi. The love in her heart was boundless, as was her generosity. We are all greater people for having known and loved her. The saints in heaven have a new addition. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 1, 2-4PM and 7-9PM at Vander Plaat Funeral Home (www.vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff. Mass of Christian Burial to be held Friday November 2, 11AM at Church of the Presentation in Upper Saddle River.
