Obituary of Gail A. Dedio
Gail A. Dedio passed away peacefully on Friday March 1, 2019 surrounded by her daughter Danielle Swenson and her son Joey at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital in New York City. The daughter of the late John and Margaret, she was born in Passaic and grew up in Garfield. She later was a resident of Riverdale and Wyckoff before moving to Franklin Lakes in 1993.
Gail received her Bachelor of Arts degree from William Paterson College. Before retiring, she was an elementary school teacher with the Riverdale Board of Education for over 36 years. A devoted wife, mother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt and grandmother she was loved by her fellow teachers, her lifelong Garfield friends and the numerous students whose lives she touched with her extraordinary compassion, intelligence and kindness.
Last year, Gail was diagnosed with lung cancer and for the past year she fought her cancer with grace and humility, courage and dignity. Many hearts are heavy with the loss of this exceptional woman. She is survived by her husband of 56 years Joseph Dedio, her son Joey, her daughter Danielle; her two grandchildren Jeremy and Jessica; her loving sisters Sandra Serafin and Carole Sangis; her dear in laws Mike and Annette Dedio, Sammy and Toma Dedio, Phyllis Taylor and many nieces and nephews.
The Receiving of Friends for Gail will be held on Sunday, March 10, 2019, from 2:00 until the Reflection Service which will begin at 4:30 p.m. at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home,(vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff, New Jersey, 07481.
