Obituary of Ruth A. Post
Ruth Ann Wiley Post passed away at home peacefully surrounded by her loving family on January 5, 2019. Born in 1928, she was raised in Paterson, and lived in the “Awosting” community on Greenwood Lake, N.J. for 80 years. Ruth graduated from Eastside High School where she served as an Honor Guard Flag Bearer. A longtime member of Rainbow Girls and Eastern Star, she rose to become Worthy Advisor. Ruth graduated from Upsala College in East Orange, N.J. with a degree in teaching, and was a member of the Alpha Phi Delta sorority. She then taught at the Hillcrest Elementary School in West Milford, NJ. where she earned an award for best new teacher. In 1955, she moved to Wyckoff to a new home she helped design. Ruth was a Girl Scout leader; a member of the Wyckoff Reformed Church; the Jr. Woman’s Club and Woman’s Club of Wyckoff where she served as President; and volunteered at the Valley Hospital for 15 years. She was the co-owner of the International Veiling Corporation in Clifton, an avid reader, a world traveler, and a loving mother to dogs, cats and four children: Susan Post Garnett and her husband Douglas; Pamela E. Post; Tamara L. Post; Robert W. Post and granddaughter Brooke A. Garnett and her former husband Robert L. Post. Visiting will be held on Wednesday, January 9, from 2 – 4 & 7 – 9 p.m. at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, (vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff, 07481. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday and the interment will follow at Laurel Grove Cemetery in Totowa. Contributions in Ruth’s memory may be made to the Ramapo – Bergen Animal Refuge, Inc., 2 Shelter Lane, Oakland, NJ 07436.
