Obituary of John D. Kuiken
Kuiken, John D., age 95, of Midland Park, passed away on Thursday, October 4, 2018. John was born in Paterson and was a life-long resident of Midland Park. John proudly served his country in the U.S. Army in WWII from 1943-1946. He was a self-employed building contractor and a member of Midland Park Christian Reformed Church where he served as an usher, deacon, elder and a member of the building committee. He was a member of the American Legion Post 130 in Midland Park as well as the Township Planning Board. After playing baseball for the Midland Park Rangers until age 42, he was proudly inducted into the Bergen County Baseball Hall of Fame in 1994. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews including Chuck and Wanda Jurgensen and their three children, as well as his devoted friends, Betty and her late husband, Dave Sullivan, and their eight children. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 64 years, Agnes, in 2012, his brother, Louis Kuiken, and his sisters, Helen Jurgensen and Gertrude Garretson. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 10th from 9:30am-11am at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, www.vpfh.com, 257 Godwin Ave. Wyckoff, NJ, with a funeral service to follow at 11am. Interment at Valleau Cemetery, 660 E. Glen Ave., Ridgewood, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory can be made to the Midland Park Christian Reformed Church, 183 Godwin Ave., Midland Park, NJ 07432.
